I travelled to Dalhousie with my friends when I was in college. We had taken a Volvo bus from Delhi at night and reached Dalhousie early morning the next day (I studied in Delhi by the way). We checked into our hotel once we reached. 6 of us checked into 2 rooms, with 3 of us in a room. We travelled in February and this was right after winter. So there was snow, but there wasn't a lot as they had begun to melt. As spring had started, the weather was quite pleasant during the day, and it would get a bit chill at night. I do recommend that you travel Dalhousie during February-March as the weather is pleasant and not brutally cold.
As this was our first time for all of us in Dalhousie, we talked to the locals to decide where to head and from there on planned our itinerary. The first day on reaching Dalhousie, we had rested a bit. We left in the afternoon to explore the place. After a filling lunch, we decided to rent a car for the day so we could travel to places that were a bit far away.
As this trip was quite a while ago, my memory if it is quite foggy, so please forgive me. But, I do remember that we went for a trek on the first day. We had visited a place where they had all these fun activities like climbing, lake crossing, gliding etc. We asked one of the tourist guide there, to take us for a trek. We had 2 options, a short trek (which was taking a shorter route to get to the mountain top) and a long trek (that would involve going through the forest to get to the top). We decided to take the long trek. It was extremely beautiful. The view was spectacular!
There were so many instances where we came across huge terrains of wild flowers growing. This was just one of them.
There were a lot of trees. The girth of the trees there where the size of 5 of us put together. They were so huge!
This picture was taken by the tourist guide when had all reached the mountain top after the trek :) I'm the second one from the right. Hehe.
The view from the top of the mountain. I still can remember what it felt like.
The next day we wanted to experience snow and we were taken to a snow park. It took us a good two hours to get to the part, so we reached before noon. We had to rent knee length boots outside the park because the snow was thick in the park, and shoes won't help inside. We entered the park and played in the snow. It was fun. We spent a good two hours there and my friends took a ton of pictures. This is how it looked like.
We came back early in the evening to our room. After we rested a bit, we went around the near by village and explored the place around us. We tried all the local street food there especially the different types of Maggi and the momos. Just absolutely delicious.
The next was our last day in Dalhousie. We got up all lazy and sleepy. By the time all of us were ready it was around eleven. We started our day with a nice heavy brunch that included nice hot paranthas and some wholesome soup. After that we headed to an adventure park that was close to another mountain top. Two of my friends ended up doing paragliding from the top mountain. I didn't go for it because I have before, and the activity was a bit overpriced in this park. But my friends who did end up paragliding had an amazing time and had recorded their entire gliding experience. I don't have the video to share with you. My other friends and I were on the foot of the mountain exploring the park and just finding good places to eat. After our friends were done, we headed back to our the hotel. We once went to the near by village to get a couple of souvenirs for ourselves. We finished of the day with an early dinner, packed and slept early as we had to head back to Delhi in an early morning bus. Overall it was an awesome trip!
This picture above was taken early during the day when it was very cloudy and clouds have seated themselves over the mountains. I could feel that it was getting colder as the clouds moved towards us.
I hope to visit this beautiful place again :)
