A flower. Isn't it a miracle. You plant a seed in the ground. And soon a whole world develops and stretches out and opens up. It is easy to get confused when the whole world around us is moving so fast. But the real things in life takes time. Just like a seed which at first glance seems lifeless. But with nurturing, comes to life and brightens the lives of others.
Despite how complicated our environment is and has become because of us, I strongly believe that we have the power to change the narrative of our future. I believe that together anything is possible.
A Himalayan Quail building a nest. An Olive Ridley cautiously laying it's eggs in the shore. A Ganges Dolphin calf slowly swimming to the surface right after its birth. The visual imagery of all of these animals reminds us of the circularity of life and how all of us are part of a cycle, rather a bigger cycle that connects us all.
Over the years, driven by logic and ration we have come to be a part of a developmental era constantly experimenting and manufacturing something more advanced and savvier than what existed previously. The thirst to invent something 'state-of-the-art' has changed our 'state-of-heart', changing us into selfish, insensitive human beings who have turned blind to everything else except ourselves and our needs.
I too had become blind. I too had become selfish. I too stopped caring.
It was the picture of a shark carcass; whose fins and tails had been cut; whose body was thrown in the ocean; it was this picture that changed me. For someone to value a shark just off its fins, and reduce it to nothing was a stark realisation that everything around me was changing. It amplified how ruthless we have become towards those who are not us, those who are not humans, those who are just mere animals who can't say anything, but are the face of such abuse.
I made a decision that day. I was going to change and foster change around me. I realised that it is easy said that done, but I will try and I will not stop trying.
If you're reading this, I want you to know that you matter. Your voice matters. You can do so much to help our environment. It could be through the smallest change like carrying a cloth bag when shopping, buying reusable metal straws, car pooling with friends, support local farmers by buying seasonal produce, the list goes on. It's time we become more environmentally conscious and show that we care. Just remember, your next action could change the world, so make it a good one :)
"The thirst to invent something 'state-of-the-art' has changed our 'state-of-heart' " -- this is such a brilliant way of putting it!
